UP
AND DOWN
|
|
Life
is filled with "ups" and "downs." The tide goes out
and the tide comes back in. The temperature goes up and it comes back
down. Expect to be down at times, that's a normal part of life. Progress
usually comes two steps forward and one step back.
When setbacks come, they cry out for attention. Don't let them frighten you. Don't let them paralyze you. Don't let them overwhelm you. Don't think that everything is bad and don't project the downs all the way to the end. Look for the silver linings, look for the rainbows, and look for the sun that is soon to come after the rain. Appreciate that downs make the contrast. You couldn't see the black but for the white. You wouldn't sit through a concert where the band played only one note. Marriage cannot be one long honeymoon. If you are happy, it is because you know what it is to be sad. If you've become a home run king, you've also learned that you're going to have to strike out once in a while. Downs are the best teacher. Walt Disney used to say that to succeed in business, "you need to have at least one good hard failure." There is plenty to learn from the downs. Some of the best lessons can only be learned from the downs. So what do you do when downs come? Accept them. Understand them. Learn from them. But don't let yourself stay there. Always get back up. And with the right attitude you'll find yourself growing up and enjoying the trip. |
